Warnings of disease epidemic in Ahwaz as environmental devastation worsens

A report from the Iranian Students News Agency has warned of an imminent and life-threatening medical crisis in the Ahwaz region due to waterborne diseases, with the drastically reduced water supply largely unfit for human consumption. Many in the region attribute the latest crisis to the catastrophic effects of the regime’s rerouting of Ahwaz’ rivers which once made it one of the most fertile areas in the region.

Ahwazis Appeal to International Community to Intervene and Save Their Lives from Pollution Threat

According to the World Health Organization (WHO) in 2011, Ahwaz city  had the worst air pollution in the world marked by “the highest count of small airborne particles out of 1,100 urban areas around the world,” that can cause “asthma, heart disease and lung cancer.”
